Catechetical Ministries

Catechesis is an essential ministry of the Church and is centered on the Good News of Jesus Christ.  As such, Christ the King Parish offers volunteers the opportunity to respond to their baptismal call and use their talents to build up the Kingdom of God by sharing their faith with the children of our parish.  The opportunities for faith sharing are:

  • Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW):  Through this ministry, volunteers give children the opportunity to hear the Sunday scripture readings in a language they can understand.  CLW ministers are usually grouped in teams of two and scheduled once a month.
  • Catechist:  Volunteer catechists assist the Director of Faith Formation with the religious education of children in kindergarten through 5th grade.  Currently Faith Formation sessions (more commonly known as CCD sessions) are held at Christ the King Parish on Tuesday’s at 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. from September through May.
  • Catechist Aide:  Aides normally assist the regular faith formation catechist and may, occasionally, stand in as substitute for a catechist that cannot attend a faith formation session.
  • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA):  Volunteers for RCIA share their stories of faith with those inquiring into the Catholic faith.  They form teams and support, with prayer and action, those who are on their journey of faith.  The RCIA process extends from September to Easter and usually meets weekly.

All volunteers, 18 years of age or older, for any of the above catechetical ministries must meet Diocesan conditions of eligibility.  If you would like more information, or if you are interested in giving your time and talent as a Catechist or Catechist’s Aid, please contact Katie Tylinski, Director of Faith Formation for Region 2.  If you would like more information, or if you are interested in giving your time and talent as a Children’s Liturgy of the Word leader or if you would like to help with RCIA or if you are an RCIA inquirer, please contact Jim Peterman, Assistant to the Region 2 Director of Faith Formation, via email.  You may also reach Jim by phoning the parish office after 1:00 p.m. (724-845-8191).
