Overview - The faith formation program for parishioners of Christ the King Parish, Leechburg, and of St. Gertrude Parish, Vandergrift, offers educational opportunities for children from kindergarten through adult. The program offers an educational opportunity, as well as formational experiences involving community, service, and worship. Our program has a curriculum in accordance with guidelines established by the Diocese of Greensburg. This curriculum covers Creed, Sacraments, Christian Living, Sacred Scripture, Liturgy, Christian Prayer, and Church with age-appropriate activities and experiences.
Reconciliation and Communion are normally received for the first time in the Second Grade. In order to ensure that they properly know their faith and are prepared to understand the significance of these sacraments, children need two years of Faith Formation. Those planning to receive these sacraments in the Second Grade should enroll at the start of the First Grade, and attend Faith Formation through the First and Second grades. Regular attendance is required.
Confirmation is usually received in the eighth grade. In order to properly know their faith and be prepared to understand the significance of Confirmation, children should participate for three years (grades six through eight) in our Middle School EDGE program. Regular attendance is required. Throughout the year, the sacramental candidates and their parents join together for special sessions and experiences. Click here to register.
Young Adults to Retirees - "Let the children come to me." (Matthew 19:14) Jesus has a special place in His heart for children and we hope you do too! Moms, dads, young adults, retirees: YOU are needed to assist with faith formation in various capacities. Being involved in faith formation and youth ministry is a way to deepen your own faith and help strengthen your parish. Come share your laughter, experiences, God's Word, and Catholic traditions with our youngest parishioners! Training will be provided. Please see this year's LETTER for more information. If you love children and are willing to let God work through you, please contact

Overview - Our youth ministry is comprised of youth (in grades 6 - 12) from both Christ the King and St. Gertrude Parishes, led by Katie Tylinski, Director of Faith Formation. Youth Ministry is administered at two levels, according to grade:
- EDGE (Grades 6 - 8) is a dynamic faith formation program open to teens in middle school. The EDGE curriculum uses different forms of media and instruction to teach tweens and teens the importance of their Catholic Faith, and its relevance to the middle school years. EDGE will be supplemented with additional activities throughout the year.
- LIFETEEN (Grades 9 - 12) is a program that brings to life Scripture, the Catechism, and to the Roman Church for high school teens. Unlike the classroom environment, LIFETEEN brings the Catholic faith to the teen, letting him/her experience Jesus Christ in the Church and in their own particular lives.
- XLT (Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament) is held on a quarterly basis. The evening includes a guest speaker and the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance). A light reception follows XLT.
